Good shaved in a spring salad, otherwise peeled, sliced and sauteed in olive oil/butter. Or mashed, but a pain to peel. Exept these seem quite even for a sunchoke, so maybe I'm wrong. Genus Helianthus - sunflowers in bloom...
Thing is. It's the wrong time of year for them. Very late summer would be right. Hm...could they have been saved from last autumn?
What ARE they???? Ok - I'm off to the local farmers' market to look for them.
Yes, the smooth also threw me. I hate peelng the little buggers. But I'll keep an eye open for this version. It's not as bad as square watermelons, though.

Jislaaik. Are they sunchokes (Jerusalem artichokes?)...
White inside, slightly nutty?

Jerusalem artichokes are a definite maybe, although I thought they're a bit more knobbly. Maybe a newer variety?
Hmmm... I'm still asking around here too, will update if find anything.
Jerusalem artichokes, confirmed. Apparently available from October to April here. And less knobbly nowadays.
