Christmas in July (2)

We cut garlands of stars, Christmas trees and bells from red crêpe paper and put them up against the walls, over doors and against the windows.

Citrus peel,pistachios, pecans and cranberries.

Almonds for the cinnamon stars.

Lebkuchen - intense parcels of
citrus peel, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and honey.

Happiness in a jar.

Rococao cake (as whimsically named by Nigella). Layers of coffee and brandy drenched sponge cake, stuck together with mascarpone, covered by a dark chocolate icing. Gold sprinkles and roughly chopped pistachios provided the opulence befitting authentic Christmas celebrations. Rich, dark, alcoholic and generally perverse, this cake provided joy well into the following week.
