Summer

We are back.  From Spain.  It is warm and sunny and humid.  Wimbledon weather.  Pimms, hats, strawberries, etcetera.  A group of school boys outside are making ineffectual coughing sounds on a vuvuzela, like in Lord of the Flies.  This is barbecue weather.

But first we have to tell you about Spain, about boquerones, croquettas, churros, and jamón.  And sherry and olives and lemon granizado.  There were lunchtime beers in dark cervecerias ,and late night tapas in alleys in Granada.  It was a good trip.

Oooh, yo uwent to Granada? it is one of my favourite places on the planet. We stayed ina rickety house in the Albaicin with a roof terrace overlooking the Alhambra. Every afternoon we would walk through the baking streets back to our little house where we would sit with our feet in a bowls of ice water sipping lemonade until the call to prayer started. The pistachio ice cream from the shop across the road form the cathedral drew me back every day. I can't wait to return...
